How to Stop Hair Fall- 4 Cheap and Effective Home Remedies

Battling Hair fall The Natural Way

I remember watching my grandmother cook when I was young. There’s always an advantage for kids to hang around the kitchen. One can always bank on being supplied with biscuits, fruits, and even chikis. But what I distinctly remember is her rubbing leftover tomatoes in her hair. She’s 79 and still has long shiny hair, albeit grey, to boast of.

Before mankind (womankind?) began to see chemicals as a panacea, most women would get their beauty ingredients from the kitchen. But the desire for quick-fixes has eroded that trust in natural home remedies for hair fall.

There can be quite a few reasons why your hair might be falling out, but these home remedies can help you counter them in the most effective way. Let me share a few of the most underrated home remedies (I have consulted my Nani) that can help you arrest hair fall.

1. Tomato

Tomatoes are an excellent source of vitamin A among other nutrients and can help treat severely dry damaged hair. Vitamin A makes hair stronger and healthier.

Method: Simply mash raw tomatoes to extract juices and apply directly to hair scalp or you could also mix it with other natural ingredients, such as henna to stop hair fall

2. Amla Or Indian Gooseberries

Amla is one of the richest sources of vitamin C. It contains a large number of antioxidants such as emblicanin, phyllanthin,  quercetin, gallic acid, and ellagic acid. It also contains a high concentration of minerals, amino acids, as well as strong immunity-boosting properties, making it one of the more preferred home remedies for hair fall. Amla oil, powder and juice can be used to effectively reduce hair fall.

Method: Take a fresh amla and squeeze out its juice. Apply it directly to your scalp and massage with your fingertips. Let it sit for an hour. Then, wash it off with a mild herbal shampoo.

Tip: Amla, like tomato, can be mixed with other natural ingredients to make a hair mask. But if you were to use Amla oil, ensure to use sparingly as it has a strong odor.

3. Eggs

Eggs contain proteins, minerals, and B-complex vitamins. These nutrients, especially biotin and other B-complex vitamins, can help control hair loss by strengthening the roots of the hair. They also help stimulate hair growth and the protein helps strengthen your hair while the fats help condition it. This home remedy for hair fall combined with other remedies over a period of time can help cure all the hair fall problems.

Method:

(Egg White) In a bowl, mix a little bit of honey and the white of one egg. Mix the two. Apply it to your scalp and hair. Leave it on for about 10 minutes then wash it off with cold water. Do not put too much honey, because it will make the pack sticky and difficult to rinse.

(Egg Yolk): Use one egg yolk with a hair oil of your choice. Whisk the egg yolk in it. Then apply it on the scalp and hair and leave for 20 minutes. Do not use warm water as that will cook the egg. Use the pack once a week. Only yolk packs help strengthen the hair roots preventing hair loss and makes the hair shiny.

(Whole Egg): Mix 2 to 3 whole eggs with a few drops of lemon juice, which will help with the smell. Beat the mixture until it is frothy and apply the mixture to the hair and scalp. Leave it for 20 minutes. Repeat the hair treatment once or twice a month.

Disclaimer: If you are allergic to egg this hair mask is not for you.

4. Onion Juice

Often sulfur deficiency leads to hair loss. Onions are high in sulfur, which is found within amino acids — components of protein. Proteins, especially keratin, which is rich in sulfur, are necessary for strong hair.

Applying onion juice can provide extra sulfur to provide strength to the hair, thus preventing hair loss. Onion juice is also considered one of the most effective home remedies for hair growth as well.

Sulfur also helps promote the production of collagen, which, in turn, helps the production of healthy skin cells and hair growth.

Method: Take an onion, dice it into four and grind it with a little water. Once done, strain the pulp and apply the juice to the scalp and hair. Let it sit for an hour and then wash it off.

Why Opt For Natural Ingredients

Most hair care products are packed with chemicals, which can harm the body in the long run. Some of the most common chemicals include parabens, which prolong the shelf life of hair and other beauty products and can cause breast cancer.  Ammonium lauryl sulfate or sodium Laureth sulfate (SLES) are detergents and can strip your hair of natural oil. Formaldehyde, too, is added as a preservative and it is a known carcinogen. Triclosan is a chemical antibacterial agent known to cause hormone disruptions, which can lead to cancer and affect fetal development.

These are only a few of the many chemicals which are added to hair care products, besides synthetic colors and fragrances. Hence, it is best that you turn to home remedies for hair fall before you opt for that expensive oil or shampoo.

Parting Shot

If you are willing to take the natural road to stronger and healthier hair, what you need is patience. Most studies undertaken on a sample group have shown that natural or organic products take at least a few weeks before it begins to bear results. Combined with the above home remedies, another effective deterrent to hair fall is warm hair oil, which has been gaining traction in the hair industry in recent years for it’s various benefits.

The other factor, which you should keep in mind, is to gauge the severity of the condition. While hair fall, hair thinning, early greying, dry and rough hair is all too common, it is the severity of the condition on which it will depend whether you should opt for natural products or seek doctor’s intervention.

Most of the home remedies for hair fall mentioned above should not ideally cause any irritation, but in case you feel any kind of irritation or itchiness, it is best that you discontinue using the mask.
